Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Jonkeri, located in the Kainuu region, is characteristic of northern Finnish lakes, often surrounded by serene wilderness. Swimming is freely permitted along its accessible shorelines throughout the open-water season, secured by the Finnish Everyman’s Rights, which guarantees public access to the water for recreational use, provided respectful distance from private dwellings and the preservation of the environment are maintained. The lake's clear, clean water, typical of the area's water bodies, makes for a refreshing and highly enjoyable swimming experience during the warmer months.
The water temperature of Jonkeri is heavily influenced by the northern climate and its long winters. The lake is generally frozen from around November to April, during which period the water beneath the ice stabilizes in the frigid range of 0∘C to 4∘C. The main season for comfortable swimming is brief, concentrated in July and early August. During this warm peak, the surface water temperature typically rises to range between 16∘C and 21∘C. Outside of this short summer window, the water is cool, mainly suitable for those accustomed to cold water or partaking in traditional Finnish cold-water plunging after a sauna.
