*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sapsojärvet in Kainuu, Finland, is a medium-sized lake system (comprising Iso Sapsojärvi and Pieni Sapsojärvi) located near Sotkamo. Its waters are relatively cool throughout the year due to the northern location and moderate depth (maximum ~25.7 m). After ice-out in spring, water temperatures are typically around 4–7 °C (39–45 °F). As summer arrives, by early June the surface may warm to about 14–17 °C (57–63 °F), reaching around 18–21 °C (64–70 °F) in the height of summer. In very sheltered bays on hot days temperatures may briefly reach 22–23 °C (72-73 °F). In autumn the water cools again, falling below 10 °C (50 °F) and the lake normally freezes as winter approaches.
Swimming in Sapsojärvet is allowed and feasible during the summer months. The water is generally clear and the setting is natural and attractive, especially near the Hiukka beach area in Sotkamo. Though the lake warms more slowly compared with more southern lakes, it still offers pleasant conditions for swimming in July and August. The cooler water can provide a refreshing swim rather than a warm bath, making it well-suited for swimmers who appreciate crisp, clean lake water in a tranquil Finnish landscape.
