*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Iso-Pyhäntä, a substantial lake in the Kainuu region, offers typical Finnish lake swimming in a pristine northern environment. Swimming is freely permitted along its shores throughout the open-water season, a right established by the Finnish Everyman’s Rights. This principle ensures public access to the water for recreation, provided private property is respected and the environment is protected. With a notable average depth of over 7 meters, the lake is known for having clean, refreshing water, making it a safe and invigorating spot for summer bathing.
The lake’s water temperature is strongly influenced by the long, cold winters in the north. Iso-Pyhäntä is typically frozen from around December to April, with the water under the ice remaining at a consistent, cold 0∘C to 4∘C. The season for comfortably warm swimming is very brief, concentrated in July and early August. During this summer peak, the surface temperature generally warms up to range between 16∘C and 21∘C. Outside of this narrow window, the water is cool, mainly appealing to dedicated cold-water enthusiasts or those who enjoy a quick, bracing dip after a sauna.
