Lake Višķu is a typical small Latvian lake whose water temperature follows seasonal patterns driven by air temperature, depth and sunlight. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures commonly range from about 2–10 °C (36–50 °F) as the water slowly warms after ice melt. In summer (June–August) the lake often reaches comfortable swimming levels, typically around 17–22 °C (63–72 °F) and occasionally up to 24–25 °C (75–77 °F) in warm spells, with shallower bays warming faster. During autumn (September–November) temperatures decline to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F), and in winter the surface usually approaches freezing, around 0–1 °C (32–34 °F) under ice.
Swimming in Višķu is generally possible and commonly practiced in warmer months because it is a natural recreational lake without any inherent legal prohibition; however local rules, water quality and signage should be checked before entering.
