Gruža Lake is a large artificial reservoir in the Šumadija region of Serbia, primarily created for water supply, and is fed by the Gruža River. Although it lacks officially developed beaches and organized lifeguard services, swimming is commonly practiced and generally allowed in its natural coves and easily accessible banks during the summer. Visitors are advised to exercise caution due to the absence of monitored swimming areas and historical concerns regarding water pollution from surrounding, often illegally constructed, facilities and agricultural runoff.
The water temperature in Gruža Lake varies markedly throughout the year. In the winter months, from approximately December to March, the reservoir is very cold, with temperatures typically ranging between 4∘C and 10∘C. However, due to its relatively moderate average depth, the surface water heats up considerably in the summer; during July and August, temperatures typically rise to a comfortable range of 22∘C to 25∘C, making it a popular spot for a refreshing swim and lakeside relaxation.
