Markovac Lake is an artificial accumulation lake in central Serbia, created by damming the Veliki Lug stream, primarily for irrigation purposes. The lake's surroundings are undeveloped, giving it a natural feel, and there are no formally designated or maintained public beaches. Swimming is generally allowed as an unregulated activity, primarily at the swimmer's own risk, as there are no official lifeguards or regular water quality checks. The lake is mostly popular for fishing and a peaceful day in nature.
As a relatively small, standing body of water, Markovac Lake's temperature is very sensitive to seasonal air changes. In the colder months, from about November to April, the water temperature is too low for swimming, falling into the 3∘C to 10∘C range, with the surface often freezing in mid-winter. During the height of the summer, particularly in July and August, the water can warm up significantly, often reaching comfortable bathing temperatures between 23∘C and 26∘C. However, visitors should exercise caution due to the lack of dedicated infrastructure.
