*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Yorkshire
Fountains Fell Tarn, a small upland pool on the slopes of Fountains Fell in the Yorkshire Dales, tends to be cold year-round. Typical seasonal surface temperatures range roughly from about 0–6 °C (32–43 °F) in winter, 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) in spring, 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in summer, and 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in autumn. Because it is shallow, it can warm slightly on long, sunny summer days but still feels chilly compared with lowland lakes. Cold-water shock and rapid heat loss are real hazards even in midsummer.
There is no formal bathing infrastructure at the tarn and no lifeguards; swimming is physically possible and not specifically banned in many upland areas, but access can be subject to landowner rules and seasonal conservation restrictions, so visitors should check local signage and use caution. Nearby attractions make the area popular for walkers: the Pennine Way crosses the fell, and Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are within easy driving or walking distance, offering dramatic limestone scenery to combine with any visit to the tarn.
