*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#North Yorkshire
Gormire Lake, tucked beneath the cliff of Sutton Bank in North Yorkshire, typically has cool water year-round. In summer the surface can warm to roughly 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) on mild days, while spring and autumn temperatures commonly sit between about 4–14 °C (39–57 °F). In winter the lake often falls near freezing, around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), especially after cold spells. The water is peat-stained and can feel colder than the thermometer suggests because of the depth and limited sunlight in shaded areas.
Swimming is not formally provided for or supervised at Gormire Lake, and bathing is generally discouraged. There are no lifeguards, the banks are steep in places, and the water can hide sudden drop-offs and submerged vegetation; conservation considerations for the surrounding reserve also reduce encouragement of casual swimming. Visitors more commonly enjoy walking the lakeside path, birdwatching and picnicking. Nearby attractions include the viewpoints of Sutton Bank, historic Rievaulx Abbey and the rolling Howardian Hills, which offer additional walking and sightseeing options.
