Trentabank Reservoir, set in Macclesfield Forest in Cheshire, typically has cool water temperatures through the year. In winter the surface often ranges from around 0–6 °C (32–43 °F), spring and autumn commonly sit between 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), and in the warmest summer months the water may reach roughly 12–20 °C (54–68 °F), with occasional warmer spikes on prolonged hot days. As with many upland reservoirs, temperatures can be lower at depth and conditions change quickly with weather.
Open-water swimming at Trentabank is generally not permitted and is actively discouraged for safety and operational reasons. The reservoir forms part of the local water supply and is managed to protect water quality, while hidden underwater hazards, cold-water shock risk and byelaws mean organised or unsupervised swimming is not advised. Visitors tend to enjoy walking, birdwatching and picnicking around the shore and in the surrounding Macclesfield Forest, with nearby attractions including Tegg’s Nose Country Park, scenic ridge walks and the towns of Macclesfield and Bollington offering cafes and further trail access.
