** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Cheshire
Lamaload Reservoir, set in Macclesfield Forest in Cheshire, typically has cool water year-round. Seasonal surface temperatures commonly sit around 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in spring, 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) during summer when the surface warms most, 8–12 °C (46–54 °F) in autumn as cooling begins, and roughly 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) in winter. These are approximate ranges; actual temperatures vary with recent weather, depth, and time of day, and deeper water stays colder than surface readings. Even in warm spells the reservoir remains noticeably cooler than coastal or sheltered lakes.
Swimming at Lamaload is generally not encouraged or officially permitted because it is a working drinking-water reservoir and there are safety risks from cold water, hidden currents and underwater hazards. As a result, wild swimming is neither promoted nor sanctioned by the water company, and visitors are advised to respect signs and keep to the shoreline. The surrounding area, however, offers excellent alternatives: Macclesfield Forest trails, Tegg’s Nose and nearby hills such as Shutlingsloe for walking and mountain biking, plus picnic spots and viewpoints for visitors.
