Burt Lake in northern Michigan experiences a wide range of surface water temperatures through the year. In early spring the lake is cold as it thaws, typically ranging from about 40–60°F (4–15°C) depending on air temperatures and lingering ice. By mid to late summer surface temperatures commonly rise into the mid‑60s to mid‑70s°F (18–24°C), and in shallow bays on warm, calm days they can approach the upper 70s or low 80s°F (25–28°C). Autumn brings cooling again, with surface readings often falling to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as the air chills. Winter usually sees the lake at or near freezing, around 32–35°F (0–2°C) where ice forms and open water is limited.
