*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mullett Lake, in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula, experiences a wide range of surface water temperatures through the year. In spring the lake is cold, often around the low 40s to low 60s °F (about 4–16 °C) as ice melts and full warming has not yet occurred. By summer, surface temperatures commonly rise into the mid-60s to high 70s °F (roughly 18–26 °C) in warm stretches, with shallower bays and sunlit shorelines warming faster than deeper central basins. In fall the surface cools back into the 40s and 50s °F (around 7–16 °C) as air temperatures drop, and winter brings near-freezing conditions around 32–34 °F (0–1 °C) with ice cover possible. These ranges vary with weather, wind, time of day and depth; deeper water remains noticeably colder than surface readings.
Swimming at Mullett Lake is commonly done in the warmer months and is generally allowed where public access points, parks and private beaches exist. Most people find conditions comfortable for swimming when surface temperatures are in the upper 60s–70s °F (20–25 °C). Caution is advised outside of summer: cold water can cause shock and rapid loss of body heat, and winter ice makes swimming unsafe except under specialized, supervised conditions. Swimmers should also be mindful of boat traffic, changing conditions, and any local advisories about water quality or safety.
