*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Torch Lake is known for clear, blue water and substantial depth, which affects how it warms through the year. Surface temperatures in late summer commonly reach the mid-60s to low 70s °F (about 18–23 °C), with the warmest afternoons occasionally approaching the mid-70s °F (around 24 °C) in very warm years. In spring the lake is typically cool, often ranging from the mid-40s to mid-50s °F (7–13 °C) as ice melts and the water mixes. By fall the surface generally cools back into the 50s–60s °F (10–20 °C) band, while deeper water stays much colder year-round because the lake’s depth and clarity limit rapid warming below the thermocline. In winter parts of the lake or shallower bays can freeze during cold spells, producing near-freezing conditions (around 32 °F / 0 °C).
Swimming in Torch Lake is allowed and popular in summer when surface temperatures are most comfortable; public access points and beaches host swimmers during warm months. Caution is advised because even on warm days the water can be brisk and cold below the surface, increasing risk of cold-water shock or hypothermia for prolonged exposure. Conditions vary by season and location, so swimmers should judge based on recent temperatures, weather, and local guidance.
