*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Walloon Lake in northern Michigan typically follows the seasonal pattern of inland glacial lakes. In late spring temperatures are cool, often ranging from the mid-40s to low 60s °F (about 7–17 °C). By early summer the surface usually rises into the low to mid 60s °F (15–20 °C), and peak summer months commonly see surface readings in the upper 60s to mid 70s °F (20–24 °C). Come fall the water cools back through the 50s and 40s °F (10–7 °C) before winter freeze-up, when surface ice forms and temperatures sit at or below freezing (32 °F / 0 °C). Localized conditions, depth and recent weather can shift these figures, so actual temperatures at any moment may differ from long-term averages.
Swimming is generally permitted and a regular summer activity at public access points and private beaches around the lake because it is a freshwater recreational lake that reaches comfortable temperatures during July and August. However, many people find water under about 68 °F (20 °C) brisk, so the most comfortable swimming window is usually a few weeks in midsummer. In colder seasons swimming is uncommon and unsafe due to low water temperatures and ice. Visitors should heed posted warnings, respect private property, and consider water quality advisories or local guidance before entering.
