** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Blue Marsh Lake, a reservoir in southeastern Pennsylvania, experiences a wide seasonal range in surface water temperature. In winter the surface commonly approaches freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). Spring brings a steady rise, with surface values typically between about 40 and 65°F (4–18°C) as weather moderates and inflows warm. In summer the upper layers often warm into the upper 60s to low 80s Fahrenheit, about 20–28°C, especially on sunny, calm days; deeper water remains much cooler due to stratification. By autumn the lake cools again, with surface temperatures generally falling into the 50–65°F range (10–18°C) before the lake mixes toward winter. Actual temperatures vary day-to-day with air temperature, sunlight, stream inflows and reservoir depth, so local readings can differ from these general seasonal bands.
Swimming in Blue Marsh Lake is restricted. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local authorities generally prohibit bathing and unsupervised swimming in the reservoir because of safety concerns, including changing currents, boat traffic, cold deep water, submerged hazards and the absence of lifeguards. Those factors, together with occasional water-quality issues in parts of the watershed, are why open-water swimming is not permitted on most of the lake despite its recreational use for boating, fishing and shoreline activities.
