*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mauch Chunk Lake, a small reservoir in eastern Pennsylvania, follows the seasonal temperature patterns typical of shallow northeastern lakes. Surface temperatures in winter hover around freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). In spring the water commonly warms to about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as air temperatures rise, while summer surface readings often reach roughly 68–78°F (20–26°C) on warm afternoons. By autumn the surface cools again into the 50–64°F (10–18°C) range. Like many lakes, Mauch Chunk exhibits vertical temperature differences: the surface can be substantially warmer than deeper water, especially in summer when stratification leaves cold layers below the thermocline.
Public swimming at Mauch Chunk Lake is generally restricted by local park authorities rather than encouraged. Restrictions are driven by safety and resource concerns — there are limited or no lifeguards, variable under‑water hazards and currents, and water-quality and management priorities for flood control and wildlife habitat. Even where informal wading or boating occurs, the combination of cold deep water and uneven bottoms raises hypothermia and drowning risks. Visitors should consult on‑site signs or the county parks office for the current rules before planning any water contact.
