** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Redman is a relatively small reservoir in south-central Pennsylvania, so its surface water temperatures follow typical mid-Atlantic seasonal patterns. In winter the surface often approaches near-freezing conditions, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). Spring sees a steady rise as air warms, with surface readings commonly in the 45–60°F range (7–16°C). Summer brings the warmest surface temperatures, frequently between about 68–80°F (20–27°C) on warm sunny days and occasionally touching the low 80s°F (27–29°C) during heat waves. In autumn the lake cools again, typically falling back into the 50–65°F band (10–18°C). Deeper water remains significantly colder year-round, and thermal stratification in summer means surface readings can be substantially warmer than subsurface temperatures.
Swimming at Lake Redman is generally not permitted because the lake is managed as a municipal drinking-water reservoir; prohibitions are intended to protect water quality and public health and to reduce contamination risks. In addition, facilities such as lifeguards and marked swim areas are not provided, and submerged hazards and cold deeper layers can present safety concerns. Recreational activities that are usually allowed—such as shore fishing or non-contact boating where permitted—are subject to local rules, so visitors should check current regulations before planning a visit.
