*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Peace Valley Reservoir (often called Lake Galena) experiences a typical mid-Atlantic seasonal pattern in surface water temperature. In spring, surface readings commonly rise from about 45–65°F (7–18°C) as air temperatures warm and snowmelt subsides. Summer surface temperatures normally sit between roughly 70–85°F (21–29°C) on warm days, although heat waves can push values a bit higher and deeper water remains noticeably cooler. Early fall sees a gradual cooling to about 50–70°F (10–21°C), while winter surface temperatures often fall to near freezing, about 32–40°F (0–4°C), with occasional ice forming in sustained cold spells. Thermal stratification in summer means deeper areas stay several degrees cooler than the surface.
Swimming in Peace Valley Reservoir is not permitted under park rules, primarily for safety and resource protection. There are no lifeguards on duty and the lake has boating traffic, variable depths, and underwater hazards that increase risk. Additionally, restrictions help protect water quality and habitat and reduce conflicts with fishing and managed boating. Visitors looking to cool off are generally directed to permitted recreational facilities or supervised municipal pools rather than entering the reservoir.
