** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Speedwell Forge Lake is a small impoundment whose surface temperatures follow the typical seasonal pattern of inland Pennsylvania waters. In winter the lake can hover around freezing, often ranging roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C) and occasionally developing partial ice cover. Spring temperatures climb from the 40s into the 60s°F (about 4–18°C) as air warms and runoff mixes through the basin. Peak summer surface waters commonly sit in the mid-60s to upper-70s°F, roughly 18–26°C, with the warmest pockets on calm, sunny days. By autumn the surface usually cools back toward the 40s–60s°F range (approximately 5–16°C) as nights lengthen and stratification breaks down. Deeper water remains noticeably colder year-round, so overall thermal profiles can change quickly with weather and depth.
Swimming in Speedwell Forge Lake is not generally permitted under park regulations, primarily for safety and water-quality reasons. There are no lifeguards or supervised swim areas, and the presence of submerged structures, steep drop-offs around the dam, fluctuating currents near the spillway, and the potential for sudden cold-water layers raise drowning and cold-shock risks. In addition, routine monitoring and treatment for recreational bathing are typically not provided in such reservoir settings, so authorities restrict swimming to minimize hazards. Visitors are instead encouraged to enjoy the shoreline, fishing, and sanctioned boating opportunities while observing posted rules.
