** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Moxie Pond, a reservoir in western Maine, experiences the typical seasonal swings of northern New England lakes. Surface water in midsummer commonly warms to roughly 60–75°F (16–24°C) on sunny days, while deeper water and shaded coves remain much cooler, often in the 40s–50s°F (4–12°C). In spring, after ice-out, surface temperatures rise through the 30s–50s°F (1–10°C) as the water mixes; by late fall the surface generally falls back into the 40s–50s°F (4–12°C) before freezing. Winter conditions commonly bring ice and temperatures at or near 32°F (0°C) where ice is present. Those figures are general; actual readings vary by year, weather, depth and exposure to sun and wind.
Swimming is possible in many parts of Moxie Pond because it is an accessible public water body with shorelines and informal access points, but there are important caveats. Areas near the dam, in fast-moving inflows or under private ownership may restrict swimming, and there are typically no lifeguards. Cold, deep pockets can produce cold shock even on warm days, so swimmers should use caution, wear flotation if venturing far from shore, and heed posted signs or local guidance about dam operations and water quality before entering.
