Location & Local Information
Kavadarci is located in a hot, continental region of North Macedonia, and its main water body is Tikveš Lake, a large artificial reservoir on the Crna River, in addition to the river itself. Due to the area's warm climate, the water temperature in Tikveš Lake exhibits a wide seasonal range. In the winter, the water is cold, dropping to between 5∘C and 8∘C. However, the lake warms up substantially during the long, hot summers, with surface temperatures typically ranging from 22∘C to 25∘C during the peak season, making it very inviting.
Swimming is generally allowed and highly popular in the designated areas of Tikveš Lake, which serves as a major recreational and cooling spot for the region during the intense summer heat. The high summer temperatures of the lake make it suitable for prolonged swimming and water sports. Conversely, swimming in the Crna River itself, especially outside the controlled lake reservoir, is usually discouraged due to concerns about strong currents and fluctuating water quality influenced by agricultural and urban runoff in other parts of its course.
