Bitola lies in the southern part of North Macedonia, along the valley of the Crna River, one of the main tributaries of the Vardar. The Crna River has a moderate continental character, with its temperature depending strongly on the season and altitude. In winter, the water cools down to around 3–6 °C, while in summer it usually reaches 20–24 °C in the lower parts near Bitola.
