Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Gevgelija is a town located in the southern part of North Macedonia, positioned along the Vardar River, shortly before it crosses into Greece. Due to its proximity to the Aegean Sea, the climate here is warmer, which influences the river's temperature. In the winter months, the Vardar's water temperature near Gevgelija typically drops to between 4∘C and 8∘C. During the long, hot summers, as the river passes through the lowland plain, the water warms up considerably, generally ranging from 20∘C to 25∘C, making the surface layer relatively warm.
Swimming in the Vardar River near Gevgelija is often discouraged due to long-standing issues with water quality. As the Vardar is the major waterway of North Macedonia, it collects pollutants from numerous urban and industrial centers further upstream, meaning the water quality near the border is not considered hygienically safe for recreational swimming. Although the summer temperatures are high enough to make swimming comfortable, official recommendations generally advise against it. Locals who do swim typically seek out specific, remote, and clean tributaries or utilize the region's famous thermo-mineral baths instead.
