*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Derwent, flowing through the Peak District and across Derbyshire before joining the Trent, is one of England’s most picturesque and varied rivers. Its water temperature reflects the region’s upland climate, with cool, clear water throughout much of the year. In winter, the Derwent usually measures between 3 and 5°C (37–41°F), staying cold and energetic after rainfall. As spring arrives, it gradually warms to around 8–11°C (46–52°F). During midsummer, particularly in July and August, the river can reach 15–18°C (59–64°F) in calmer sections and sheltered pools. By early autumn, temperatures fall again to around 10–12°C (50–54°F), maintaining a fresh but pleasant feel well into the later months.
Swimming in the River Derwent is possible and increasingly popular in certain areas, especially where the water is deep and the current gentle. The upper reaches near Chatsworth and Matlock offer scenic, accessible spots for wild swimming, though care is needed after heavy rain when the flow becomes strong. The river’s excellent water quality and natural beauty make it a rewarding place for open-water enthusiasts. Beyond swimming, the Derwent Valley is known for its historic mills, walking trails, and landscapes within the Peak District National Park, creating an ideal balance of heritage and nature.
