*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Nene, one of the major rivers of eastern England, flows gently from Northamptonshire through Peterborough and into the Fens before reaching The Wash. Its calm and meandering nature allows the water to warm more easily than in faster upland rivers. In winter, the Nene typically measures around 4–6°C (39–43°F), staying cool and slow-moving. By spring, temperatures rise gradually to about 9–12°C (48–54°F), and during midsummer—especially in July and August—the river often reaches 18–21°C (64–70°F), making it one of the more comfortable English rivers for outdoor recreation. By early autumn, it cools again to around 13–15°C (55–59°F), keeping a refreshing but mild character well into the later months.
Swimming in the River Nene is allowed and has grown in popularity in recent years, particularly in calmer stretches away from locks and boats. The water is generally clean, and the slow current makes it suitable for wild swimming during the warmer months, though caution is still advised after heavy rain. Many residents and visitors enjoy short swims, paddleboarding, or kayaking along its tranquil banks. The river passes through scenic countryside and historic towns, with attractions such as the Nene Valley Railway, Ferry Meadows Country Park, and nearby cathedral city of Peterborough.
