** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Witham, which flows through Lincolnshire, sees a marked seasonal change in its water temperature. During the cold winter months, the water can be quite chilling, typically ranging from about 4∘C to 8∘C (39∘F to 46∘F). As summer approaches, the river warms up, particularly in slower moving sections, often settling between 16∘C and 20∘C (61∘F to 68∘F) during peak heat, a temperature range considered fresh for swimming.
Despite the occasional warmth, swimming in the River Witham is not formally encouraged due to a number of risks. Local bylaws, such as those historically in place near Brayford Pool in Lincoln, may prohibit it for safety reasons, and the river's overall water quality is a significant concern, with pollution from agricultural run-off and sewage posing potential health hazards. Consequently, other recreational activities are more popular, such as boating and cycling the adjacent Water Rail Way, a scenic route that follows the former railway line between Lincoln and Boston. Visitors to the area can also explore the historic sites in Lincoln, including the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle.
