** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Salaspils (Latvian: Salaspils) sits near the Daugava River and a number of small lakes and recreational ponds used by locals. Water temperatures in these inland lakes follow typical Latvian seasonal patterns: in spring (April–May) surface temperatures usually range from about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as the water cools from winter and slowly warms; in summer (June–August) the shallow lake surfaces commonly reach 18–25 °C (64–77 °F), occasionally higher during heatwaves; in autumn (September–October) temperatures drop to roughly 8–16 °C (46–61 °F) as cooling accelerates; and in winter (November–March) lakes are often at or near freezing, around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), with many bodies of water ice-covered for months.
Swimming in the Salaspils area is generally permitted in designated bathing spots where water quality is monitored and lifeguards may be present during the high season. Open swimming in unmarked areas is possible but less advisable because of variable water quality, occasional algal blooms, underwater hazards and, on the Daugava, stronger currents. Authorities may temporarily ban bathing after heavy rains or pollution incidents, and winter ice swimming should only be done at supervised locations with safe ice assessments.
