The Desna River, one of the major left tributaries of the Dnipro, is known for its relatively clean waters and gentle flow in many stretches. In the warm season, especially during July and August, the river reaches water temperatures of around 20–24°C, which makes it suitable for swimming. Shallower areas along sandy banks warm up faster and are the most comfortable for bathing, while deeper parts of the river remain noticeably cooler.
Swimming in the Desna is a traditional summer activity for many communities along its banks. The river offers natural beaches and wide sections where the current is mild, making it pleasant for both families and experienced swimmers. However, like any large river, the Desna has deeper channels and varying currents, so it is safest to swim in places known to locals or specially designated for recreation.
