The Unava River flows through parts of Zhytomyr and Kyiv regions, winding through forests, meadows, and small towns before joining the Irpin River. It’s a calm and relatively shallow river, which allows the water to warm up quickly in summer. From June to August, water temperatures in the Unava usually range between 20 and 25°C, making it comfortable for swimming, especially on sunny days when the current is slow and the water clear.
In many places, the Unava has sandy or grassy banks that are convenient for resting and bathing. Locals often come to the river for short swims, fishing, or kayaking, particularly near Makariv and the surrounding villages. The water is generally clean in rural stretches, though after heavy rain it can become more turbid.
