Novhorod-Sivers’kyi lies on the Desna River in northern Ukraine, where summers are warm but not tropical, and winters are cold. In the warmest months (July-August), water near the riverbanks and in shallow, slow-moving sections often warms up to around 20-24 °C. Such temperatures make swimming reasonably pleasant in safe spots — calm banks, no strong current, accessible entry points. In deeper or faster-flowing parts, or shaded areas, the water tends to be cooler.
Outside summer, especially in late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September), the water temperature drops into the 12-16 °C range. That’s cold for most people, though short swims or wading may still be possible. Once winter starts, the river cools significantly, likely approaching near-freezing when ice starts forming; under those conditions, swimming is either unsafe or impossible except for experienced cold-water swimmers with proper precautions.
