In Chernihiv, the Desna River is wide and calm, creating favorable conditions for swimming during the summer months. By mid-July and August, the water usually warms to around 20–23°C, making it comfortable for bathing, especially in shallow sections near the city beaches. Earlier in the season, in late May or early June, the river tends to be cooler, closer to 15–18°C, which can feel refreshing but not always suitable for long swims.
Swimming in the Desna at Chernihiv is quite popular, as the riverbanks near the city have sandy stretches and areas adapted for recreation. However, being a large river, the Desna has deeper currents, so it’s safer to swim in designated spots.
