Zvornik Lake, located on the Drina River along the border between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, is an artificial reservoir known for its clean and calm waters. The lake’s water temperature changes seasonally due to mountain inflows and regional climate. During winter, the water remains cold, usually between 2–6 °C (36–43 °F). In spring, temperatures gradually rise, reaching 12–16 °C (54–61 °F) by May. By midsummer, in July and August, Zvornik Lake typically warms to 22–25 °C (72–77 °F), making it comfortable for swimming and recreation. In autumn, temperatures drop below 15 °C (59 °F) again as cooler air and rainfall affect the water balance.
Swimming in Zvornik Lake is allowed and popular during the warm season. Several beaches and access points exist along the Serbian side near Mali Zvornik, where the water is clear and conditions are generally safe. The lake’s moderate depth and slow flow make it suitable for bathing, boating, and fishing. Regular water quality checks ensure safe swimming conditions in summer, though colder temperatures and strong currents near the dam require caution. From late June to early September, the lake offers pleasant swimming opportunities in a natural setting surrounded by forested hills.
