Modrac Lake, located near Lukavac in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, is one of the country’s largest artificial lakes. Formed on the Spreča River, it serves both as a water reservoir and a popular recreation area. The lake’s water temperature varies significantly throughout the year. In winter, it ranges between 3 and 6°C, gradually rising to 12–15°C in spring. During summer, especially in July and August, the water warms to around 22–26°C, occasionally reaching up to 27°C in shallow areas. In autumn, the temperature decreases again to about 12–16°C.
Swimming in Modrac Lake is allowed and common during the warmer months. The lake has several accessible shores and recreational zones where locals and visitors swim, sunbathe, and enjoy water sports. The water is generally warm and calm, offering comfortable conditions for bathing. However, as Modrac is also used for industrial and household water supply, water quality can vary, so swimming is safest in designated recreational areas. During summer weekends, the lake becomes a lively spot for outdoor relaxation, surrounded by cafes, fishing spots, and scenic views.
