The Pannonian Lakes (Panonsko jezero) in Tuzla are a unique complex of artificial, salt-water lakes and waterfalls, famously the only salt lakes in Europe located in a city center. As these are managed, open-air swimming areas, their water temperatures are specifically maintained for recreation during the operating season (typically May to October). In the off-season, water temperatures drop significantly, reflecting the continental climate of Tuzla. However, during the summer, the shallow, contained lakes warm quickly, consistently reaching ideal swimming temperatures, often peaking between 24∘C and 26∘C in July and August.
