*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Greater Manchester
Rooden Reservoir sits on the edge of the Pennine fringe in Greater Manchester and is fed by cool upland streams, so its water stays relatively cold year-round. Typical seasonal surface temperatures range from around 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) in winter, 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in spring, 14–20 °C (57–68 °F) in summer on warmer days, and 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) in autumn. Temperature stratification and weather can make readings variable, and even summer highs are modest compared with open-water bathing places further south.
Swimming at Rooden Reservoir is not usually officially promoted; reservoirs are often managed for water supply and pose hazards such as sudden depth changes, submerged structures and cold-water shock, so formal bathing is frequently discouraged or restricted. Wild swimming does occur locally, but it is at individual risk and may contravene site rules. Visitors who choose to come for scenery can enjoy nearby outdoor attractions such as Hollingworth Lake, Pennine walking routes and country parks on the Peak District fringe, which offer walking, birdwatching and picnic spots without the safety concerns of unsupervised reservoir bathing.
