*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Greater Manchester
Black Moss Reservoirs, set in the West Pennine fringes of Greater Manchester, have fairly cold waters year-round because of depth, shading and upland runoff. Seasonal surface temperatures typically run roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) in spring, 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) in summer, 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) in autumn and around 1–6 °C (34–43 °F) in winter; temperatures vary with weather, depth and how long a warm spell lasts. Cold shock and hidden currents are real hazards, so even in summer the water can feel brisk and tiring within minutes.
Officially, swimming at Black Moss Reservoirs is generally discouraged or not permitted for safety and water-quality reasons, and because reservoirs are managed for drinking supply and flood control. Some experienced wild swimmers use nearby open water where local rules and signage allow it, but visitors should obey restrictions and avoid unsupervised entry. The area is otherwise popular for walking, birdwatching and moorland scenery, with several local trails, panoramic viewpoints and small villages nearby for refreshments and short circular routes.
