** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#West Yorkshire
Baitings Reservoir, high in the Calderdale countryside of West Yorkshire, stays relatively cold year-round because of its upland location and depth. Surface temperatures typically sit around 2–6 °C (36–43 °F) in winter, rise to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in spring, and reach about 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) in summer, occasionally touching 20 °C (68 °F) in warm spells; autumn temperatures usually fall back into the single digits to low teens Celsius. These figures are approximate and can vary with weather, wind and depth, so even summer water can feel chilly compared with inland lakes in warmer regions.
Swimming in Baitings Reservoir is generally discouraged and not permitted without permission because reservoirs present safety risks such as cold-water shock, hidden currents, steep or slippery banks and operational concerns relating to water quality and supply. Some organised, supervised events or sanctioned open-water sessions may occur under controlled conditions, but casual bathing is not advised. The area remains attractive for walkers, birdwatchers and cyclists, with scenic routes through the Ryburn Valley, nearby Scammonden Reservoir and Pennine moorland providing pleasant alternatives to entering the water.
