*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Greater Manchester
Ogden Reservoir, set on the moorland fringe of Greater Manchester, is a cool, shallow body of water whose temperature follows the seasons closely. In winter the surface typically falls to around 1–6 °C (34–43 °F), spring usually sees 4–10 °C (39–50 °F), summer highs commonly reach 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) and autumn cools back to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). Even at the warmest times the water is noticeably chilly and can produce cold-water shock for unprepared swimmers, so thermally cautious behaviour is advised.
Officially, swimming at Ogden Reservoir is generally discouraged or prohibited because the site contributes to local water supplies and because submerged hazards and changing currents create safety risks. Despite that, some wild swimmers may visit informally; anyone considering entering the water should check local rules, be aware of potential legal and health implications, and take appropriate safety measures. The area is still popular for walking, birdwatching and moorland scenery, with easy access to Pennine trails, nearby reservoirs and the recreational areas around Hollingworth Lake and local villages.
