*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#West Yorkshire
Ryburn Reservoir, set in the rolling Pennine foothills of West Yorkshire, usually has cool water year-round. Typical surface temperatures range from around 1–6 °C (34–43 °F) in winter, rise to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in spring, reach about 12–19 °C (54–66 °F) at the warmest points of summer, and fall back to around 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) in autumn. These figures vary with air temperature, rainfall and depth, and the water can feel considerably colder than the surface reading, especially early and late in the year.
Swimming is not officially encouraged at Ryburn Reservoir; access and activities are often restricted by the water company and local signage due to safety concerns such as cold-water shock, sudden underwater hazards and water quality issues. Some experienced wild swimmers do visit at their own risk, but anyone considering entering the water should be cautious and check local guidance. The reservoir is popular for walking and birdwatching, and nearby attractions include the villages around Ripponden, scenic valley walks and sections of the Calderdale countryside that attract hikers and cyclists.
