** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Greater Manchester
Hanging Lees Reservoir in Greater Manchester, England, typically has cool water throughout the year. Surface temperatures commonly range from about 3–6 °C (37–43 °F) in winter, 7–12 °C (45–54 °F) in spring and autumn, and roughly 13–18 °C (55–64 °F) in the warmest summer months. These values vary with recent weather, rainfall and depth; deeper sections remain colder and sudden wind or rain can quickly lower surface temperatures. Because the reservoir is part of the local water supply and has steep banks, submerged structures and potentially strong currents, swimming is generally not officially permitted for safety and water-quality reasons. Wild swimmers do sometimes enter at their own risk, but there are no lifeguards and cold-water shock and hypothermia remain real hazards.
The site is nonetheless popular with walkers, birdwatchers and photographers, and it sits among upland moorland with other nearby reservoirs and trails. Local attractions include scenic reservoir circuits, country pubs and easy access to the Pennine foothills and the Peak District for more extensive walking and cycling.
