** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Farris is a freshwater lake in Vestfold og Telemark county whose water temperatures vary markedly with the seasons. In winter the surface often sits close to freezing, typically about 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), while spring brings a gradual rise to roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). Summer is the warmest period for bathing, with surface temperatures commonly reaching 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) in July and August, though shallow bays can warm a few degrees more on calm, sunny days. In autumn the water cools again to around 8–14 °C (46–57 °F). Temperatures also depend on depth, wind and local geography, so sheltered coves normally feel noticeably warmer than exposed open water.
Swimming in Farris is commonly practiced and generally allowed where shore access exists, particularly at public beaches and designated bathing spots during the summer months when temperatures are most comfortable. Some areas around the lake may be subject to private ownership or protective measures because of drinking-water intakes or sensitive shoreline, so local signage and municipal guidance should be observed. As with any lake, swimmers should be aware of variable depths, boat traffic and sudden temperature changes and exercise appropriate caution.
