** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Vänern (Swedish: Vänern) in Västra Götaland County is Sweden’s largest lake and shows marked seasonal variation in surface temperature. During winter months temperatures commonly range from about 0 to 4 °C (32 to 39 °F), and parts of the lake can freeze in cold winters. In spring the surface typically warms to roughly 2 to 10 °C (36 to 50 °F) as meltwater and cooler air persist. Summer sees the warmest conditions, with average surface temperatures often between 15 and 22 °C (59 to 72 °F) and sheltered bays occasionally reaching 23–24 °C (73–75 °F) in warm years. Autumn brings cooling waters, commonly 8 to 14 °C (46 to 57 °F) before winter sets in.
Swimming in Vänern is generally allowed and popular at many designated bathing spots and public beaches; Sweden’s tradition of public access and local municipal facilities support recreational use. Water quality is often suitable for bathing, though conditions vary by location and season. Bathers should be aware that the lake is large and can develop sudden wind-driven waves, colder temperatures below the surface, boat traffic and uneven bottoms, so swimming near marked areas, using life jackets for open-water excursions and checking local advisories is advisable for safety.
