** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Stora Gla is a lake in Värmland County that typically has clear, cool water influenced by its latitude and local weather. Surface temperatures in summer commonly range from about 16–22 °C (61–72 °F), and during warm spells shallow bays can reach 24–26 °C (75–79 °F). In late spring the water is still chilly, often between 2–12 °C (36–54 °F) as the lake recovers from ice cover, while autumn sees a gradual cooling to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F). In winter the lake is frequently ice-covered; water immediately under the ice is close to 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). Deeper water remains colder year-round, so temperatures vary with depth and exposure.
Swimming at Stora Gla is generally possible and commonly practiced in the warmer months because of Sweden’s public right of access (allemansrätten) and the lake’s recreational character. However, conditions determine safety: low spring and autumn temperatures increase the risk of cold shock, and winter swimming is hazardous without specialist knowledge and equipment due to ice and near-freezing water. Bathers should choose sheltered, shallow areas for warmer surface temperatures, check local conditions, and follow basic water-safety precautions.
