*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Alkvettern in Värmland County typically follows the temperature patterns of inland Swedish lakes. In late spring (May–June) surface water is often between about 8–16 °C (46–61 °F) as warming begins. Peak summer temperatures in July and August commonly range from roughly 18–22 °C (64–72 °F), although shallow bays can reach the mid-20s °C (mid-70s °F) on very warm, calm days. During early autumn (September) the surface cools to around 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) and by late autumn and winter the lake approaches freezing; under ice and just below the surface temperatures are near 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). Deeper water remains colder year-round and temperatures vary with wind, sunlight and recent weather.
Swimming in Alkvettern is generally allowed and commonly practiced in summer because of public access to shores under Swedish access rights and typically acceptable water quality. Designated bathing spots and informal beaches are used when surface temperatures are comfortable. Caution is advised for cold-water shock in early/late season and for boat traffic, sudden depth changes and underwater vegetation. Ice swimming is possible in winter where ice is safe and prepared, but only with appropriate precautions and local knowledge. Always check current conditions and local advisories before entering the water.
