*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Greater Manchester
Gorton Reservoirs remain relatively cool throughout the year. In winter months (December–February) surface temperatures typically sit around 4–6 °C (39–43 °F), rising through spring to about 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). Summer (June–August) can bring the warmest conditions, often 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) on sunny days, while autumn sees a decline back toward 8–12 °C (46–54 °F). Because the reservoirs are fairly deep and fed by mains inflow, they can stay colder than nearby rivers and can produce sudden temperature gradients that contribute to cold-water shock for unprepared swimmers.
Swimming in Gorton Reservoirs is generally not permitted and is discouraged for safety and water-quality reasons. The sites form part of the urban water supply infrastructure and are unsupervised, with submerged structures, uneven banks and no lifeguards. Although some people do take part in unofficial wild swims, doing so carries legal and health risks. Visitors can instead enjoy nearby attractions such as Gorton Monastery, the green space of Debdale Park, local walking and cycling routes, and easy access to central Manchester.
