*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Bygdin in Innlandet County is a high‑altitude mountain lake whose water temperatures remain comparatively low year‑round because of elevation, limited heat retention and snowmelt inputs. Typical winter conditions see the lake ice‑covered and surface water at or just above 0 °C (32 °F). In spring as ice breaks up, surface temperatures commonly range from about 1–6 °C (34–43 °F). During the brief summer season the warmest surface readings are usually between roughly 8–14 °C (46–57 °F), though on unusually warm, calm weeks small shallow bays can register slightly higher. By autumn the water cools again to single digits, around 4–8 °C (39–46 °F), before refreezing.
Swimming in Bygdin is legally permitted under Norway’s access rights, and people do swim there in summer, but it is practical only for those prepared for cold‑water exposure. The lake’s low temperatures mean rapid cooling, increased risk of cold shock and hypothermia, and typically no lifeguards or facilities, so swims are short or done with a wetsuit and support such as a boat or companions. Floating and brief dips are common; longer recreational or open‑water swims require experience, proper equipment and local knowledge of weather and ice conditions.
