This water temperature is still quite low, and swimming in such conditions may only be comfortable for hardened individuals. It is recommended to limit the time spent in the water to avoid hypothermia. For those not accustomed to cold water, it is better to refrain from swimming. However, if you decide to enter the water, it is advisable to wear a warm wetsuit for protection against the cold. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Tyin is a large, high‑altitude lake partly located in Vestland county in southern Norway. Because of its mountain setting and often snow‑fed inflows, water temperatures are generally low year‑round. In winter the surface is commonly near freezing, about 0–1 °C (32–34 °F) under ice. During spring and early summer temperatures typically range from roughly 1–6 °C (34–43 °F) as snowmelt keeps the water cold. Peak summer surface temperatures in the warmest months are modest, often around 6–15 °C (43–59 °F) depending on weather, with occasional warm spells pushing the top layer higher. In autumn the lake cools again, commonly falling to about 3–8 °C (37–46 °F) before ice returns.
Swimming at Tyin is generally possible and not prohibited in the same way as in many Norwegian lakes, since public access to shorelines is a normal part of Norwegian outdoor rights. However, practical and safety considerations matter: Tyin is regulated as a reservoir in places and water levels and currents can change near dams and outlets, and the persistently cold temperatures pose a real risk of cold shock and hypothermia. Quick dips in summer are common, but longer swims require proper preparation, awareness of local rules and conditions, and caution about sudden level changes or restricted zones.
