*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Songavatnet (Norwegian: Songavatnet) is an inland lake in Telemark County characterized by clear, often cool water typical of Norwegian upland lakes. Seasonal surface temperatures vary notably: in spring (April–May) waters are cold, roughly 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) as ice thaws and runoff continues. Summer (June–August) brings the warmest conditions, with surface temperatures commonly between 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) and occasionally rising toward 20 °C (68 °F) during warm spells and in shallow bays. In autumn (September–November) cooling resumes, with temperatures falling to about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). Winter usually brings ice formation and water at or close to 0 °C (32 °F) under the ice, making open-water swimming impractical.
Swimming in Songavatnet is allowed in the sense that Norwegian public access typically permits bathing in lakes, and there are no general prohibitions on entering the water. Practical opportunities depend on season and local conditions: summer offers the most comfortable and safest window for swimming, especially in sheltered shallows where the sun can warm the water. Caution is advised because the lake can be cold even in summer, depths change quickly, and weather or wind can make conditions hazardous. There are generally no lifeguards, so swimmers should assess temperature, currents, and access points before entering.
