Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. ** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Ringedalsvatnet, a mountain reservoir in Vestland County, Norway, is characterized by cold, clear water fed by mountain streams and snowmelt. Seasonal surface temperatures are typically low: in spring (April–May) the water commonly ranges from about 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) as ice melts and runoff continues; early to mid-summer (June–July) can see surface temperatures rise to roughly 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) on warm days; peak summer (August) may reach 12–16 °C (54–61 °F) in sheltered, sun-exposed spots but deeper water stays colder; autumn (September–October) generally drops back to 6–10 °C (43–50 °F); and in winter the lake often approaches freezing, around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), with ice cover possible depending on the year.
Swimming in Ringedalsvatnet is not universally prohibited, but it comes with caveats. As a hydroelectric reservoir the lake’s level and currents can change quickly near dam structures and outlets, creating strong flows and cold shocks; for these reasons authorities and locals advise avoiding areas close to the dam and any marked industrial installations. Recreational swimming is feasible in safer, sheltered bays during the warmest weeks, but there are no lifeguards, temperatures remain brisk even in summer, and proper caution is necessary to avoid hypothermia and hazardous currents.
