*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Valldalsvatnet in Vestland County is a mountain-fed lake and its water temperature varies markedly through the year. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures are typically low, around 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) as snowmelt keeps the water cold. Early summer (June) commonly sees 8–14 °C (46–57 °F), while the warmest period in July–August can push surface temperatures to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) on sunny, calm days. By autumn (September–October) temperatures usually fall back to about 4–10 °C (39–50 °F). In winter the surface is close to freezing and ice cover is possible; water temperatures approach 0 °C (32 °F) where the lake does not freeze solid.
Swimming in Valldalsvatnet is generally possible, but conditions and safety must be considered. Norway’s right of access (allemannsretten) allows recreational use of many lakes, yet some lakes are regulated reservoirs or have local restrictions, and sudden outflows, steep shores or cold water shock can make swimming hazardous. The warmest and most comfortable window for swimming is midsummer; even then, many visitors use wetsuits when temperatures are below about 15 °C (59 °F). Always check local signage and conditions, enter slowly to avoid cold-water shock, and avoid areas near dams, intakes or fast-flowing inlets.
